About Me

Welcome to glamourgrannytravels.com!

My name is Inka Piegsa-Quischotte, a free lance travel writer and photographer. I have created this blog with a view to encourage female baby boomers who, in theory, love to travel but do not yet really dare to go out and actually DO it.

I’ll show you the best travel destinations, share my adventures and tell you how to be safe. We’ll talk travel fashion, beauty tips, local customs and a lot more. Hopefully, once you have read a few posts and looked at a few pictures, you’ll want to run to the nearest travel agent and book a trip.

Or, if you are already an old hand at solo travel, you’ll be inspired to discover new dream destinations and tick them off one by one from your bucket list.

Why I’m the right person to talk about boomer travel

The answer is simple: because I’m a baby boomer myself with a life long passion for travel.

Born in Germany, I went to univesity in Bonn, Freiburg and Berlin, but started out in Basel/Switzerland, reading international law. I spend the first 30 years of my life as an international attorney, running my own law firm in London and Marbella/Spain.

During the course of my first professional life, I traveled the world, seeing absolutely nothing. From airport to hotel to offices and back. I have been to the most exotic places and never had a chance to savour the culture, the sights and the ‘real’ people.

One day, I just woke up and decided: enough is enough. I still want to travel but now I want to really SEE things. So, I sold my firm, my house, bought a small apartment in Turkey just to have a pied a terre and started to do what I really wanted to do.

It helped that I have no family which makes me totally independent and that I had a few bucks stashed away.

When I didn’t have to write briefs, I have always written short stories and the odd poem, so I decided to share my travel experiences with like minded people and started the glamourgranny.

As the title indicates, I like to travel the world in some style and comfort. Back packing is not for me, but I’m perfectly able to adapt to circumstances. Here I am camping on the beautiful island of Naxos in Greece, because the hotel had somehow messed up my booking. No problem, I wouldn’t want to make a habit of it, but it was great fun.

On the other hand, I like glitz and glamour and it didn’t get much more glamorous than the Bal de l’Ete in Monte Carlos.

Where I have been

I need the sun and the sea therefore I like to travel anywhere in the world where I don’t need five layers of clothing and furlined boots. My interests are history, museums, archaeological sites, islands, art and culture. All of which I find in my favorite destinations which are.

The Middle East

The Carribean

South Florida

South Africa

Costa Rica

Future travel plans

There is still a lot of world left to explore and my plans for the  future are:

A cruise along the Amazon

A trip on the Transsiberian Railway

All South American countries I haven’t been to yet

What I’m proud of

It’s a little over four years that  glamourgrannytravels.com has seen the light of day and been launched into cyberspace. I’m proud to say that my readership is increasing steadily and that I get some very lovely comments.

My blog has been included as no.6 on the Top 10 boomer travel blogs2015  to follow on the flipkey list.

I also like to write for other publications and my latest achievement has been an article about Hasankeyf in Turkey, published on BBC/TRAVEL.

I am a regular contributor to GoNomad, allexciting, and many others. You can see a full list of my published articles at www.glamourgrannytravels.com/portfolio/

And, finally, I must not forget my fiction writing. My novel The Househusbands’ Club has won Readers Favorite Award 2009 in it’s category of chick-lit.

Bits and pieces

And finally some snippets about me which didn’t really fit into the previous sections.

I speak English, French, German, Spanish and a rather rudimentary Turkish. My preferred writing language is English. I am a member of the International Travel Writers Alliance.

I live currently in Spain, but my itchy feet make themselves felt, so I’ll move soon, just have to decide where to.

I love dogs but not cats. I am not a fussy eater, but I eat as little as possible because I constantly struggle with my weight. Therefore you won’t find many food posts on my blog.

I don’t like or use backpacks, suitcases for me, but the carry on variety. Hence I’m an expert at traveling light. In fact, ny next article will be full of tips of how to look great with very little luggage.

I’d love to hear from you, so, please, if you feel like it, post a comment.
